Disaster Response
Disaster Response & Risk Reduction Department

Background:

Afghanistan is a war turn country which has passed more than 30 years of internal and regional war which has badly affected many aspect of normal life like: education, health, justice and many others. Some other negative factors synergize its bad effects and deteriorate the normal circumstance of local people that we can say they are the consequences of internal and regional war like: low level of literacy, poor economic condition, poor level of awareness, Violence against women, child abuse, drug traffic and many others. So all mentioned factors joint hands, co-inside and predispose these communities to many kinds of natural hazards. The vulnerable conditions of local communities are also the key factors for predisposing them to natural hazards like vicinity of houses, gardens and lands to river, low location of villages, location of villages in the slopes, using of poor constructive materials in houses, low level of awareness on Disaster-Management and so on.
Based on these facts and to address the needs and response to people at risk, CHA's disaster management and response department has operated since 1987. The unit has been implemented a lot of development, recovery, rehabilitation, relief, mitigation and response projects to vulnerable communities in some area of Afghanistan. Fortunately CHA has the membership of Asian Disaster Risk Reduction Network (ADRRN) and at the same time membership of Disaster Risk Reduction Consortium (DRRC) in Afghanistan.
