Infant mortality rate stood at 66 per 1,000 live births in 2015 whereas maternal mortality ratio was 396 per 100,000 live births (The World Bank, 2015). Furthermore, there are a total of 405 hospitals in the country of which 252 are private hospitals with 3 doctors per 10,000 persons (CSOA, 2015). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Afghanistan faces a high burden of communicable diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis that account for more than half of all deaths in the country and remains one of the three polio-endemic countries in the world (WHO, 2014). The main health-related challenges include inadequate financing, lack of trained health personnel and limited access to facilities due to dispersion of and insecurity amongst the population (WHO, 2014).

Under the new strategic plan, the following health related objectives have been identified:
• To increase accessibility and proper utilization of basic health services for people;

Assist in raising health and nutrition standards and strengthening the health system through pro- viding coordinated services of promotional, preven- tative and curative health care as well as activities that promote the health and living conditions in rural and urban areas, in accordance with community


 

To increase access and utilization.to improve quality of pri- mary health care services in an equitable and sustainable manner.

To increase the proportion of women and children having access to emergency and routine Reproductive Health (RH) and Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health (MNCH) Care and immunization Services;

Goal : To contribute in reducing maternal and new born mortalities, (ii) reduce under 5 mortality , improve child health and nutrition by delivering of BPHS in entire Farah prov- ince.

CSO type B or Public private partnership Project has been implementing in 3 districts included Bakwa , Gulistan and Purchaman of Farah prov- ince.

 

  • Maternal and Newborn Health.

  •  -  Child Health and Immunization.

  • -   Public Nutrition.

  • Communicable Disease Treatment and Control.

 

Community Midwifery School and community Nurs- ing school are functional in Farah province under BPHS . Based on selection criteria 48 female train- ees selected with close coordination of provincial public health directorate from different districts of Farah province .
